Today’s FIA rule changes
Today the FIA have met to discuss the rules for 2014 and 2015 as well as to prepare for the introduction of a Budget cap to be introduced in 2015.
2014 Rule tweaks:
- Cars are no longer allowed to stop at the end of the race to ‘save fuel’ and still provide the sample as required by the regulations. Cars must arrive in Parc Ferme and give the mandated fuel sample.
- The new 5 second penalties can be taken during a pit stop, with the car sitting stationary for 5 seconds before the mechanics are allowed to start work on the car. 10 second penalties will continue to be stand alone pit visits
- Teams are allowed 6 ‘joker’ curfew’s this year as supposed to last years 2 to aid teams with getting to grips with the new, more complicated cars
- Team personnel must wear helmets in the pits during qualifying as well as in the race to aid safety.
- Cars weight limits have increased by 1kg due to the increase of the tyre weight by 1kg
2015 Changes:
- Tyre blankets / Tyre warming devices will be banned to cut costs.
- Manufacturers will no longer have to manufacture their own suspension or brake ducts and can now buy these from other teams to share costs
- Car weight limits will increase to 701kg (a 10kg increase) so that heavier drivers are at less of a disadvantage
- There will be tweaks to the technical regulations to stop the front of the chassis from climbing too steeply.
- A cost cap will be introduced and will be discussed further in the year.
All of these regulations will be put to the F1 commission for ratification on Thursday.
