Sky Sports Pre Season Media Day & Interviews
On Wednesday I visited Sky Sports HQ to meet the F1 team and discuss ideas for the upcoming season. The mood was of great anticipation and excitement with the new season only a few days away. All of the team were desperate to point out how this coming season could see an even more epic battle between Hamilton and Rosberg at Mercedes but as always with F1, there will be so much more than that to discuss.
Sky Sports F1 (Sky Channel 407) is the only place in the UK to watch all of the races live and uninterrupted.
During the day we got to play with Martin Brundle’s ultimate Scalextric track which was certainly a sight to behold! Made up of over 40 turns, chicanes, straights and sections recognisable to Formula One™ fans around the world such as Casino Square at Monaco, Silverstone’s Copse and Abu Dhabi’s Marina Complex.
‘The Ultimate Track’ is a fast and long circuit with big contour changes and features the pit straight from Silverstone, first chicane from Monza, the signature climb at Austin to the Eau Rouge at Belgium. The circuit’s shape is based on the figure of eight from Suzuka.
The track has been brought to life by Scalextric, as the biggest layout the slot car track experts have ever designed. Parts of every single track from the 2015 season can be seen on Martin’s ultimate circuit which has been built to a massive 9m by 9m. Scalextric’s impressive 45 metre long track is made up of 177 pieces and includes track laying, landscaping and all the final detailing.
A spokesman from Scalextric’s said that they were still costing up the track but it would certainly cost £1000+ to build yourself! The Scalextric track includes the new ARC timing app which makes ‘slot car’ racing more real life, times your laps and makes you pit when your tyres are wearing making for a much more interactive and intense gameplay. Scalextric ARC is available in all good toy stores now.
During the day I also got to play with the SkyPad although i promise i definitely didn’t break it (ok I might have done slightly) It’s amazing to use and very intuitive if you’ve used a touch screen tablet or monitor.
